Pictures of the view

I am on the fifth floor of this apartment building but it’s more like the seventh floor because there’s two floors before first floor. Confusing. Anyways what it means is a few things, first it’s a little bit quieter from the street noise because I’m up higher. I’m not pretending that I don’t hear traffic and horns, but it’s not as noisy as I would’ve thought for where I am in Phnom Penh. Secondly, I’m up high enough I don’t get any flying bugs up here, so I can keep the windows and sliding glass doors open and thirdly I then get an incredible breeze. My apartment is the whole length of the front of the building on my floor so I have windows on three sides of the building which means I can catch any and ALL Crossbreeze. This is a huge advantage because then I can keep the apartment pleasant without having to turn on the air conditioning. That’s a whole other story that I will get to you later. There are kind of three times a day to appreciate the view here. One is sunrise, one is sunset/when it’s dark and then of course the middle of the day which is probably the least cool in my opinion.

The bottom Picture is the front of the building after 6 PM. This is sort of a funny story now, even though it wasn’t at the time. I knew they close these doors because Sunday night when Nichol and I went out for his last walk I noticed they were closed (and I took this picture in fact). But what it means is that you can’t go in and out doors these doors as they are locked. You have to use the garage which is fine for me because I normally use the garage anyways to avoid the stairs for Nichol. But when I woke up Monday morning to walk Nichol at 5:30 in the morning, these doors were still locked of course, so I went down to the garage but the garage door was locked and closed. There’s 24 hour security, but the security guard was sleeping on a cot and I felt weird waking him up. So somehow I felt locked inside the building. Which of course made me feel very safe, but very much like I was in an alternate universe. Maybe nobody gets up as early as I do around here?? After I went up and down several times the guard finally awoke and had the garage door open around 6:20am. Still plenty of time for me to walk Nichol and get to work by seven but felt bad making Nichol wait that long to go Pee after all night. So note to self: stop at the front desk after work tonight and find out how to navigate this little hiccup.

And finally…..mid day on a murky moody day

I am still waiting for a sunny mid day picture opportunity. Since I’ve been at work every day I’ve not been able to see that from my balcony yet. But now that it’s the weekend we’ll see what Saturday and Sunday bring😏

Sometimes I don’t think the pictures even look real. And sometimes I can’t believe I’m actually here! ❤️
