another beautiful day

Hi all–I am sorry about not blogging more–I easily lose track of the days now. We had to move rooms yesterday. Not sure if I mentioned it before or not, but we got a double upgrade when we checked into the Sugar Palm in Karon. We had booked just a regular cheap hotel room. So after the upgrades we had the coolest rooms EVER. There were balconies off the rooms that walked right into the pool–so not only were all three rooms like this, but we could get between rooms from the balconies etc.  I have some pictures, so will get those up. Anyway—we liked it here, so we booked more nights, but the deluxe pool access rooms were not available–not that I would have paid for them anyway! So we are in the Deluxe pool view rooms–still very nice (on the 4th floor) but we overlook the pool (as the name implies).

The breakfast here that we have every morning is great—lots of good American breakfast choices as well and Thai food. It is more like a brunch and we all eat up so that we can pretty much go through to supper time without having more than some snack like street food in the afternoon. The kids are pretty much addicted to banana pancakes–they go down to the street for those themselves now. We found a second cart that we want to try, but he is there in the evenings–so we need to go see him later today maybe. We tried “chicken” on a stick yesterday–Troy captured that in a picture. I believe it was real chicken though as it looked like a drumstick and thigh. It was very tasty I must admit–and Russill is thinking that and some fruit would make a good supper. I agree. I tried corn the other day…It is roasted on a grill and buttered and salted up–YUMMY!

Still no rain–not sure what this “rainy” season they talk about is. There is some talk that we may get a thundershower later today–we will see. It is clear blue skies right now…

Rachael and Jackie got their hair braided yesterday–now we look like uber tourists–Oh well! I think it will keep them cooler–even though sunscreening all those parts is a pain  : )

We are thinking about renting a driver and an A/C van tomorrow and touring around the countryside a little. We want to go see the “BIG BUDDHA” that Troy went to last year when they were building it and he made a donation and was able to write our names on the back of a tile that they used to surface the actual Buddha…so we are up there somewhere. We also want to explore some other beaches and maybe go to Phuket town?? Not sure—it is on my list of things to do today to figure out that out. We are also thinking about going to Phi Phi islands on Saturday. There is a “tour” you can take that takes you to all 4 islands and provides lunch and we can snorkel at each place and explore a bit. So that should be fun…

Also a shout out to Becca for being such a diligent blog follower—the kids (and Troy and I love reading your comments!)
